Monitor Argy

About Monitor Argy

Argentine macroeconomic indicators, with the date of every data point, its official source and when the next release is due.

What it is

Monitor Argy tracks public series on the Argentine economy (inflation, economic activity, the exchange rate, reserves, employment, wages, consumption, foreign trade) and shows, for each one, which period the latest data point covers, whether it is up to date and when the next release is due.

The problem it solves is not finding the number but knowing whether it is current: statistical agencies publish with irregular delays and revise their series backwards.

Where the data comes from

Every series is downloaded from its official source: INDEC (the national statistics agency), the central bank (BCRA: Principal Variables and the central bank survey of economists, REM), the Labor Secretariat (SIPA), the Economy Ministry, Torcuato Di Tella University and industry bodies such as ADEFA (automakers), the Argentine Steel Chamber, the Portland Cement Manufacturers Association and the notary associations. Each series page links to the source file.

How it is updated

An automated process pulls the central bank series every business day and INDEC series on the dates of its official release calendar. Each load records when it was made: if an agency revises a figure, the earlier version is not lost.

Before publication, every value is checked against a plausible range and against its own history. If a number fails validation, it is not published.

Freshness

Each series has an expected lag between the end of the period and the release of the data. "Current" means the latest data point arrived within that window; "delayed", that the window has passed; "overdue", that it has passed by more than half the window. For daily series the window is counted in business days.

Seasonal adjustment

When the agency publishes a seasonally adjusted series, the official one is used. Otherwise the series is adjusted with X-13ARIMA-SEATS, the US Census Bureau's program, using an Argentine holiday calendar, and labeled "s.a. (in-house)".

How to cite and reuse

Cite "Monitor Argy (monitorargy.com), with data from" the agency behind the series, along with the period of the data point, which appears on each series page.

All series can be downloaded as CSV from the Data section. Our own calculations (seasonal adjustments, rates of change, deflated series) are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license (CC BY 4.0); the original data belongs to the agencies that publish it.

Who is behind it

Monitor Argy is a personal project of Giorgio Tacchini. It has no affiliation with the agencies that publish the data and receives no funding from them.
